Chartered in April of 1926 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department was founded by a group of 13 men. These are the thirteen exceptional individuals and the offices each initially held include:

- John M. O'Rourke, Secretary
- William Stilley, Trustee
- R. H. Goulding, Trustee
- John Reis, Trustee
- J.C. Fox, Trustee
- William McLey, Trustee
- Anton Petrovich, Trustee
- Daniel Bashor, Trustee
- J. J. Shevelan, Fire Chie
- Peter Maracini, Assistant Fire Chief
Without the vision and leadership of these exceptional individuals, the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department would not exist. It is these founding members that have laid the foundation in creating what has become one of the most respected fire departments in Allegheny County, PA.
The current Staff, Officers, and Membership of the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department are forever grateful for the foresight and courage of these men.

Silver Level
The Broughton Volunteer Fire Department is currently recognized on a state level by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner as a Participating Department at the Silver Level. This voluntary program recognizes emergency service personnel whose accomplishments in training and education meets or exceeds nationally recognized standards set forth by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Currently, the Broughton Vol. Fire Department has 75% of its members certified.
