About Broughton Volunteer Fire Department

Chartered in April of 1926 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department was founded by a group of 13 men. These are the thirteen exceptional individuals and the offices each initially held include:

A vintage Broughton Volunteer Fire Department fire truck is parked outside a fire station. The truck is equipped with ladders, hoses, and various firefighting equipment. It has "Broughton Vol. Fire Dept." and the number "40" written on the side.
Without the vision and leadership of these exceptional individuals, the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department would not exist. It is these founding members that have laid the foundation in creating what has become one of the most respected fire departments in Allegheny County, PA. The current Staff, Officers, and Membership of the Broughton Volunteer Fire Department are forever grateful for the foresight and courage of these men. Today, our members represent your friends and neighbors. People just like you who have a desire to give back to the community and enjoy the camaraderie offered by an organization such as a volunteer fire department

Silver Level

The Broughton Volunteer Fire Department is currently recognized on a state level by the Office of the State Fire Commissioner as a Participating Department at the Silver Level. This voluntary program recognizes emergency service personnel whose accomplishments in training and education meets or exceeds nationally recognized standards set forth by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Currently, the Broughton Vol. Fire Department has 75% of its members certified.
